The International Women’s Day Celebration presented by Centro Familia on Sunday March 8 was a huge success. Over 150 women joined the organization to celebrate the power of women past, present, and future. Held at the Willow Tree Inn, the event began with a beautiful sermon by Pastor Juan David Rocha.
After opening remarks by Executive Director Pilar Torres, Cecilia Contreras delivered a beautiful poem that epitomized the spirit of the celebration. The staff of the Willow Tree Inn served a delicious breakfast before Dr. Claudia Campo took the microphone. Dr. Campos’ speech centered on the tone of empowerment and the rights of women, inspiring many to write down the lines they liked to create the table centerpieces.
On each table was a pile of ribbons and a wire tree. When a speaker would say a line or a word that resonated with a person, they would write it on the ribbon and tie it to the tree. What resulted were colorful and unique centerpieces at each table, a reflection of the women sitting there and an inspiration to continue the empowered attitude outside of the celebration.
Awards were presented to Tina Arancibia, Distinguished Volunteer; Dr. Claudia Campos, Distinguished Service; Andrea Sarralde, Distinguished Partner and to Councilmember Duchy Trachtenberg the Hermana Award. The entire event was presided over by the Mistress of Ceremonies Telemundo’s Andrea Sarralde. Her charm and humor closed the celebration with a raffle. Each table had a winner of one of fifteen discount cards for services at the Manuel Hair Salon, including two of Centro Familia’s own staff. While others to home prizes that included a certificate for Natal Chart/Life Coach services, a necklace and earring set by famous jeweler Angela Franco, and a perfume/lotion set. Fifteen winners took home a unique centerpiece to commemorate the event.
