Here are the facts:

  1. Child Poverty among Latinos is the highest in the nation.
  2. The use of "informal/unregulated child care among Latino families is rampant.
  3. Latinos significantly under utilize preschool programs and government services.
  4. Latino children overall suffer from significantly lower academic performance.
  5. Latinas are less likely to provide a second source of earnings for their families.
  6. There is a dire need for training services that are culturally and linguistically relevant.
  7. Few existing childcare programs in Montgomery County reflect the cultural and linguistic values of the Latino community.
  8. Latino families are more likely to be headed by persons without a high school diploma.
  9. Early childhood interventions that offer quality childcare and complementary services to otherwise help parents provide a healthy and nurturing environment for their young children, should be the leading edge of the strategy to break the poverty cycle.
