| Here
are the facts:
- Child
Poverty among Latinos is the highest in the nation.
- The
use of "informal/unregulated child care among Latino
families is rampant.
- Latinos
significantly under utilize preschool programs and government
services.
- Latino
children overall suffer from significantly lower academic
performance.
- Latinas
are less likely to provide a second source of earnings
for their families.
- There
is a dire need for training services that are culturally
and linguistically relevant.
- Few
existing childcare programs in Montgomery County reflect
the cultural and linguistic values of the Latino community.
- Latino
families are more likely to be headed by persons without
a high school diploma.
- Early
childhood interventions that offer quality childcare and
complementary services to otherwise help parents provide
a healthy and nurturing environment for their young children,
should be the leading edge of the strategy to break the
poverty cycle.
